Obama proposes fee for Canadian visitors to the U.S.

In this article it states that barrack Obama wants to charge Canadians a fee for entering the states by air or sea. The proposal is shown in the 2012 federal draft budget that he had submitted to Congress. It is a huge value of $5.50 but it will not apply to visitors entering the United States in private vehicles. Also, the visitors coming from Canada, Mexico and a many of the Caribbean countries are at this moment in time exempt from “passenger inspection fees." Also, according to Statistics Canada around 16 million Canadians flew into the United States in 2009. This proposal was made as Canada and the U.S. move toward increased cross-border cooperation.

I believe this a ridiculous thing for President Obama to do. We are an alliance and he shouldn’t charge his fellow country to enter his country. Although the U.S is in a huge financial deficit he shouldn’t charge Canadians to enter his country. When Canadians enter the U.S. Canadians usually spend money so there is no reason for us to spend an Extra $5.50 for the U.S to make money.

  1. I agree with Nicholas, Canada and USA are alliances and Obama just randomly decided to create these 'passenger inspection fees' for Canadians, Mexicans and parts of the Caribbean. And in 2009, 16 million Canadians went into the US, which means that if this fee was created earlier then the US would have made $88 million! Think about how much money USA will make each year just by Canadians, Mexicans and Caribbean people entering the country.
